Ultimate Dreams: Living ‘em!
What are you doing to attain your dream? Putting one foot in front of the other.
Have you attained any dreams? If so, what were they and what did you do to attain them?
I’ve wanted to be a writer since I was 10. I’ve also wanted to work toward positive change in the world. While I have often felt intimidated by all the obstacles that litter the road, I do feel I’ve been able to write a few things that have made a difference to people. And that makes me very happy.
What’s your advice to other dreamers?
I think the most important trait for anyone is persistence. There’s a Japanese saying: “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.” Everyone’s going to fall, not just once but many, many times. The trick is to keep getting up and going for what you want. Because no one else is going to hand it to you or get it for you. You are the only person in the world who can achieve your dreams. So go out there and do it!
Professor Brown was my professor for multiple classes at Newhouse. She is an incredible teacher and an inspiration to every student who’s been in her classroom. She’s also a published advocate of having a healthy body image. Please visit her website harrietbrown.com and learn more about her accomplishments she so modestly didn’t mention.
