What are you doing to attain your dreams?
For the past few years I have been writing, recording, and performing my original music as much as possible. I’ve booked small showcases to headlining events — such as beat battles and fundraisers. I’ve been trying to get my name and music out as much as possible.
I spent 7 months last year in LA promoting and performing my music while also building some important connections and relationships with people, both inside and outside the industry. I released one solo project, “Long Island’s Fresh Prince,” and one group project, “3 Amigos” thus far. Both are mixtapes and available for free download online.
I’m working on my second mixtape, which I hope will showcase my progress as an artist from the first installment and give people a better understanding of myself and my history. I’ve been working with a number of artists and producers, which has enabled me to learn a lot about how other people work and how to develop different techniques to better understand my craft. Every day is another opportunity to get better.
What do you think you ultimately need to attain your dreams?
Personally, I feel it’s a matter of when my music gets into the right hands. In order for that to happen I need to continue to work hard and promote my music. I think the right situation will eventually present itself if I continue to do my part and stay true to my vision.
Have you attained your dreams? If so, what were they and what did you do to attain them?
In some ways I have already succeeded in attaining some dreams, and parts of others. Though I am not a famous rock star by any means, I have been blessed with the privilege of performing in places I would have never imagined. The feeling of being on stage in front of a crowd, be it 4 friends or 200 strangers, is unparalleled. Just being taken seriously as an artist is an accomplishment in itself. Granted, I have a long way to go to achieve the ultimate dream, but if the journey ended today it would have been an awesome one. These “small” victories have come in large part to being open-minded and taking advantage of whatever opportunities may present themselves. You can never know if something is right for you if you never try.
What’s your advice to other dreamers?
