Ultimate Dream: This is something that I’ve just started thinking about and, honestly, I don’t think it’s a question that’s quite done being answered. However, my ultimate dream is to work for myself at something that I absolutely love. I want the ability to work four hours a day, twelve hours a day or anywhere in between and I want to want to work at something that doesn’t feel like work. Right now, I’m trying to focus on my love for writing. I also love people – I’m very social – and would love to combine the two into a career as an author and speaker.
What are you doing to attain your dream?: After thinking about the question of “What do I want to do?” quite a bit I realized that I needed something to push me. I currently work a full-time job and have numerous responsibilities outside of work which makes it hard for me to set aside time to work on projects of my own. So, I decided that what I needed was accountability. With that in mind, myself and a very dear friend (who is also a writer but works full time at a startup) resolved to start a “writing club.” So far it’s just the two of us but two is always better than one. We meet monthly in order to talk about project ideas, critique work and, as I touched on earlier, make sure we’re both moving ahead with our work and towards our goals.
What do you think you need to attain your dreams?: Really, all I think you need is belief and hard work. Success is a mindset and I believe that if you set your mind to something and put the work in, you’ll get there. “There” might not always be exactly where you expected at the outset but I believe that no matter what happens at least you’ll be able to be proud of what you’ve accomplished. That accomplishment might not result in immediate fame or success but it will make you a better and more content person.
Have you attained any dreams? If so, what’d you do to attain them?: I’m still very young and, hopefully, most of my dreams are still ahead of me to be attained. I’m also sure that many goals will be defined as I continue to move forward in my life. For now, I’m very thankful that I was able to graduate from a fantastic four-year university. For this, I’m very lucky. Besides that, every day I strive to be a better person, to affect the people in my life as positively and straightforwardly as possible. I’ve learned that in order to do this, in order to make the best decisions you can, you have to really look at and evaluate yourself. I’ve thought a lot about the kind of person that I want to be and tried to conduct myself in a way that reconciles with that vision or goal. This is the way I try to approach everything. You can’t just say “I want to get here.” Instead, tell yourself “I want to get here” and then ask yourself “What do I have to do in order to get there?”
